After 11 years of ‘Titanic’, James Cameron is back in action with ‘Avatar’ – well, this line was enough to turn everyone’s attention across the globe. But the film isn’t so appealing and doesn’t exceed your expectations.
The biggest question goes this way – Can you satisfy the tastes of audiences merely with special effects on 3D? Definitely not, the film’s storyline is based on clichéd trait where the protagonist is appointed as a spy amongst aliens of Planet Pandora and later he becomes a good man fighting against the evil forces of human race. As well, the act of passing soul from one body to another has been witnessed in our very own Tamil Cinema from the times of ‘Vittala Charya’ and Prabhu starrer ‘Chinna Vaathiyar’.
The film is about Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), an ex-marine who’s confined to wheelchair. But then, he’s so strong at his heart and joins the mission which is about not fighting at the other corner of world, but a different planet indeed for acquiring a mineral worth $20 million per kilogram.
To make him look such as the primitives over there in Pandora, the team forms a new avatar just as the primitives of Na’vi for Jake and he can walk now.
As on his grounding in Pandora, he comes across a beautiful Na’ vi girl (Zoe Saldana). When things move ahead, they fall in love with each other. And now, Jake is wedged between the critical situations of saving the good planet of Pandora. But if does it, can he survive from the clutches of evil people on earth and would he able to save it forms crux of the story.
James Cameron has tried adding some emotional quotients to the film that’s so much dominated with 3D effects. Since half the film is about the talkie portions in real world, there’s nothing for Kids to enjoy much. Well, the special effects are mind-boggling that’ll let you excited with interesting elements.
Performance wise, Sam Worthington performs well coalesced with the transformation of the avatar being. But it’s Zoe Saldana stealing the show with her stunning acts. Right from the beginning till the climax, she keeps making it best on performance.
Musical score turns to be a big disappointment as the background is unapt for every sequence.
On whole, ‘Avatar’ has probabilities of scoring big in box office and is sure to have a great opening with lavish production cost. But it may not sustain its position in box office for a long period of time.
Bottom – Line: Fantabulous visuals, flimsy narration
Verdict: One of the greatest movies of all times.
